The final results are in for our 1,000,000 Indexing Challenge! Joseph Smith taught that Section 88 teaches us “how to prepare ourselves for the great things that God is about to bring to pass”. The depth of doctrine contained in this Sections is incredible. I’ll share with you the historical stories which were happening at the time the revelation was received, plus some thoughts on a few points of doctrine.
In this video I share the historical context of the revelations found in Doctrine & Covenants 85-87.
The Lord provides this revelation at a particular point in Joseph Smith’s life when he needed it the most. Also, how the power and authority of the Priesthood is accessible and available to everyone. Plus, a virtual tour of the Priesthood Restoration Site!
During the first Solemn Assembly of this dispensation, Joseph Smith promised those in attendance “that the pure in heart should see a heavenly vision”. Many saw the Savior. Some saw the Father. Some recorded their experience for us to hear.
These four revelations come at a very trying time for Joseph Smith personally. He recently had to fend off the verbal attacks from Ezra Booth. Soon after, he was tarred and feathered. A few days later, he and Emma would bury another child right before Joseph left on a mission to Missouri. The words of comfort, and promises given from the Lord must have been particularly meaningful to Joseph at this time of his life.
