In "Beyond Come Follow Me", I tell the Church history stories that relate to this week's Come Follow Me lessons. Knowing what was going on in Church history at the time, and what Joseph was praying for, can really help the revelations come to life, and help them become applicable to our own lives.

These four revelations come at a very trying time for Joseph Smith personally. He recently had to fend off the verbal attacks from Ezra Booth. Soon after, he was tarred and feathered. A few days later, he and Emma would bury another child right before Joseph left on a mission to Missouri. In “The Vision”, the Lord personally taught Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon the Plan of Salvation. This was no ordinary “revelation”, for the Lord stood before them, and showed them the eternities. Joseph and Emma move to the John & Elsa Johnson home in Hiram, OH where they will live for one year. These three revelations, along with many others were received in the upstairs bedroom of this home. Personal apostacy continues in Kirtland, but John Taylor has an experience that teaches a powerful lesson which was relevant then and even more so today for when we find it hard to “doubt our doubts”. Plus, the Lord reveals his true identity as a loving, merciful Savior who is anxious to help us.
